Anat Maya // ענת מיה
Anat Maya is an artist working in Tel-Aviv, Israel. She holds B.ed and M.ed degrees from HaMidrasha – Faculty of the Arts, at Beit Berl College (2015).
Over the last few years, Anat has been simultaneously working on two painting series, made up of various techniques and subjects, with an intricate dialogue between them.
The first series is mainly made up of paintings in oil on canvas. The painting style is figurative, minimal in details, and with a relatively narrow range of colors. This series includes portraits of boys-men, sleeping in their domestic space or in vague environments. The pieces raise questions concerning the limbo/space between devotion and abandon, as expressed through the sleep motif.
The second series is mainly made up of sketches in ink and watercolor. These works have a more intuitive nature, and they contain meshes of object images. These objects are drawn from the artist’s autobiography, and mostly depict combinations between objects, nature, and human figures. Within the paintings, they are intertwined using conceptual contexts represented through connections of physicality and form.
